Founded in 1999 by a small body of concerned archivists and scholars, Relics of the Post Age has become a somewhat more-than-minor force in the effort to preserve the traditions of handwritten correspondence.

From its headquarters in New York City, the Relics team methodically sorts, classifies, and evaluates thousands of pounds of mail for the purpose of assembling a collection of letters that is both definitive and an accurate cross-section of the genre. Every specimen undergoes a rigorous, hands-on examination. Only those pieces of correspondence that best exemplify style, content, and cultural significance are approved. (The rest are sloppily resealed and forwarded to their intended recipients.)

With the exception of head curator Lolly Bhanja (see photo, right), the members of the Relics staff prefer to remain anonymous.

Mail tampering is a felony after all.
